Ingredients of Taisen's 5 bean chili

  1. It’s 2 of cans of light or dark red kidney beans.
  2. Prepare 1 can of butter beans.
  3. Prepare 1 can of capellini beans.
  4. It’s 1 can of mild chili beans.
  5. It’s 1 can of northern beans.
  6. It’s 2 of cans of tomato sauce.
  7. Prepare 1 of large onion, diced.
  8. Prepare 1 can of diced tomatoes or leave this out.
  9. You need 2 of packets of taco seasoning.
  10. It’s 6 of to 8 tablespoons of chili powder ( you can add more or less ).
  11. It’s 5 tsp of garlic powder ( you can add more or less or even use 2 or 3 cloves of garlic , minced or diced fine ).
  12. Prepare 4 tsp of onion powder ( I like extra onion flavor, but you can omit this ).
  13. Prepare 1 of red pepper flakes , red pepper and / or black pepper ( optional ).
  14. You need 1 of block ( 8 ounce ) cheese . we use cheddar . shredded ( optional ).
  15. You need 1 of small purple / red onion ( optional ).

  1. Open all cans of beans. Drain juices. Add to crock pot.
  2. Add in onion.
  3. Add seasonings. Chili powder, onion powder, taco seasoning. Mix well. Red and black pepper if using. (as you can see, I add a lot of spice because my family loves chili to be extra spicy) stir well.
  4. Add in the tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir. Set crock pot on high for 4 to 6 hours. Stir every hour if your crock pot is like mine. Mine gets over hot so a lot of times I use medium heat longer..
  5. Before serving, shred the block cheese and dice onion as a topping. If making cornbread do this now or use butter bread..
  6. Serve with butter bread, cornbread or salad. Enjoy.
